Performing arts courses from prestigious Presidency College

Presidency University is reportedly planning  to launch courses in at forms such as music, dance and theatre from the upcoming academic session.

The University vice-chancellor Anuradha Lohia reportedly said that rather than name sake,  they would start practical classes for honing one's skills. But, he also added that the school of performing arts would be trying to establish the basis of such art forms as they have
been evolving since ancient times.

The decision for launching these courses was reportedly ratified by the university's governing body, even as a request has since been sent to the state higher education department for formal approval of faculty members. Sources say  that leading names in  the fields of classical music, dance and theatre from all over India would be visiting Presidency to groom students.

A similar concept was earlier applied in the School for Arts and Aesthetics at the Jawaharlal Nehru University. Presidency is reportedly in touch with JNU's faculty member Urmimala Sarkar for creating the course concept.
